What paint correction does

Also called a machine polish. It removes defects from the paint itself, where a wax or glaze only hides them for a few weeks.

Removes swirls

The fine circular scratches you see in sunlight, mostly from washing.

Clears water spots

Mineral marks and light etching left behind by dried water.

Brings back gloss

Level paint reflects cleanly, so colour looks deeper and sharper.

Preps for coating

A coating locks in what's under it, so corrected paint is the right base.

One-step or two-step

The difference is how many polishing passes the paint needs. We show you a test spot before you choose.

  • One-step: a single polishing pass that clears swirls and haze. Right for most cars.
  • Two-step: a heavier cutting pass, then a finishing pass. For dark paint and deeper defects.
  • Both finish with a ceramic sealant to protect the result.

What correction can't fix

  • Scratches deep enough to catch a fingernail
  • Rock chips, which need touch-up paint
  • Peeling or failing clear coat

How a correction goes

One day at the shop for a one-step.

  1. Get a quote

Tell us the vehicle and send a few photos of the paint in sunlight. We reply with a price range and dates.

  2. Inspection and test spot

We check the paint under lights, polish a small test area, and show you what a one-step will achieve.

  3. Wash and decontaminate

A full wash, iron remover and clay leave the paint clean, so the polisher works on paint and not on dirt.

  4. Tape and protect

Trim, rubber and badges are taped off so they aren't marked by polish.

  5. Machine polish

Every panel is polished in sections and checked under lights before we move on.

  6. Seal and hand over

Polish residue is wiped off, a ceramic sealant goes on, and we walk you through the result.

Keeping it swirl-free

Most swirls come from washing. These habits keep corrected paint looking corrected.

  • Hand wash with a pH-neutral soap
  • Use clean microfibre mitts and towels
  • Skip automatic and brush car washes
  • Dry by patting or blotting, not rubbing

What to expect

We aim for a clear, glossy finish with the swirls gone, not a promise of perfect paint.

Every car's paint is different in hardness and history. The test spot shows you the real result on your paint before any work is agreed, and we point out anything that won't come out.

Paint correction questions

What is paint correction?

It's machine polishing that removes a very thin layer of clear coat to level out swirls, light scratches and water spots, so the paint reflects cleanly again. You may also hear it called a machine polish, a buff, or a cut and polish.

How much does paint correction cost?

A one-step correction starts at $600 for a sedan and a two-step starts at $1,000. Full-size trucks start at $900 for a one-step. The price depends on the size of the vehicle and the condition of the paint, and you get an exact quote before we start.

Do I need a one-step or a two-step?

Most cars need a one-step, which removes the swirls and haze you see in sunlight. A two-step adds a heavier cutting pass first and suits dark paint or paint with deeper defects. You don't have to guess: we polish a test spot at drop-off and show you the result before you decide.

Will it remove every scratch?

No. It removes or greatly reduces defects that sit in the clear coat. A scratch you can catch with a fingernail is usually too deep to polish out safely, and rock chips need touch-up paint. We tell you what will and won't come out before we start.

How long does it take?

A one-step takes a full day at the shop. A two-step takes longer, and we confirm the timing once we've inspected the paint.

How long do the results last?

The defects we remove are gone for good. New swirls come from how the car is washed afterward, so careful hand washing keeps the finish. A ceramic coating on top makes the paint easier to wash and helps the result last.

Can you polish a repainted panel?

We don't polish repainted panels. Fresh or aftermarket paint can react unpredictably to machine polishing, so we work around those panels and tell you up front.

Do you offer mobile paint correction?

No. Paint correction is done in shop only, where the lighting lets us see every defect. Mobile service is available for detailing.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A deposit secures your spot, and it comes off your final bill. It's fully refundable if you cancel more than 48 hours before your appointment, and you can reschedule any time before that. Inside 48 hours, the deposit is kept.
